Smartphone are essentials to our everyday life. Statistics has shown that there are 8.3 million mobile subscriptions in just Singapore alone. Meaning there are 1.5 mobile phone for every person in Singapore! Smartphone has become something we can’t live without! Don’t you agree? 🙂
When it comes to shopping for vegetarian products and ingredients, your mobile application comes in handy if you know how to leverage on them. It can help save money, save time and turn us into a smart Vegetarian Shopper! Below are a list of 4 useful shopping app for Vegetarians and Vegans:
As a vegetarian or vegan, it is important that we know how to decipher nutrition labels while we shop. Some food might be filled with hidden animal ingredients. If we are not careful, we might end up buying the wrong product. The following apps can help you save time googling for unknown ingredients:
This app comes with both paid and free version. It allows you to scan for food and beverage product UPC code using your smartphone camera. Without having the need to press a button, simply points your smartphone camera at a UPC code on a product package. The app will display the product information and inform you if there’s a non-vegetarian ingredient inside. Of course, this app isn’t perfect, there are limited amount of products and ingredients in the database. Some products might appear to be unknown when you scan for them.
Alternatively, you can also perform a manual search by product or ingredient name. Let’s say you came across an ingredient that you are unsure with, for example, “gelatin”, you can search for the ingredient name and it will determine for you whether is it a vegetarian product or not.
This app comes in free version. It’s a simple information based app that comes in 2 categories: Animal Ingredient and Vegan Ingredient. Animal Ingredient category is a list of ingredient names that are animal derived. Vegan Ingredient category is a list of vegan-friendly ingredient, usually are plant derived. It does not have a search feature, but not to worry, all ingredients in each category is sorted in alphabetical order.
This app comes in free version. It shows you a list of companies and products that are cruelty-free. What’s unique about this app is, the list of product brands are sorted in different categories, such as cosmetics, household, personal care and etc. So let’s say if you are choosing a new facial product for yourself and it has to be vegetarian/vegan-friendly, you can use the app to identify a brand easily.
Every time before we venture out to buy anything, it is a good habit that we make a list of what to buy, such that we don’t end up overspending and buying things that we don’t need. The last app I personally recommend is an app that allows you to create shopping list:
Wunderlist is a free to-do list app for your personal and professional work. It allows you to organize and share your grocery shopping lists with your family members. The best part is, you can access it from anywhere and any platform.
There you go, hope you like the above shopping apps we recommended 🙂 Are you using any other shopping apps that are useful to vegetarian and vegan but not listed above? Feel free to share with us in the comment section below 🙂
